Assistive Technology Reports

Providing expert insight into technology that supports independence, function, and quality of life following serious injury

Assistive Technology Reports offer a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s technology-related needs following serious or catastrophic injury. These reports focus on identifying and recommending appropriate technologies to enhance independence, communication, mobility, environmental control, safety, and daily living.

Prepared by clinicians with expertise in assistive technology, each report is tailored to the client’s specific circumstances, functional goals, and living environment.

Purpose and Scope

Assistive Technology Reports are commonly instructed in personal injury and clinical negligence cases to:

  • Identify suitable technologies that support function and independence
  • Evaluate the practical application of technology in the client’s home, educational, or work setting
  • Provide costed recommendations for hardware, software, and associated training or support
  • Assess the need for ongoing maintenance, updates, or replacement over time
  • Consider compatibility with other rehabilitation or care interventions

Approach and Methodology

Assessments typically involve a detailed consultation with the client and, where appropriate, family members or caregivers. This may be supported by home visits, virtual assessments, and liaison with relevant professionals (e.g., occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, case managers).

Recommendations are made with consideration for the client’s abilities, aspirations, and the practicalities of implementation. The report includes a breakdown of associated costs, including equipment, installation, training, and ongoing support, where relevant.

Integration with Other Reports

Assistive Technology Reports may be commissioned as standalone documents or integrated into broader Needs Reports. They are also appropriate for review and update as technology develops or as the individual’s needs change over time.
